In 1 Samuel 17: 51, we are told that David slewed the Philistine champion Goliath:在撒母耳記上17:51,我們被告知,冠軍大衛 slewed非利士人歌利亞:

Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

Yet in 2 Samuel 21:19, we read that Elhanan was the person who slewed Goliath:然而,在撒母耳記下21:19,我們讀到, 埃爾赫南是人誰slewed巨人:

And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear [was] like a weaver's beam.

In the most recent versions of the在最近的版本的 Bible聖經 , we find that this contradiction has been harmonised by the translators by putting the words “the brother of” in brackets right before Goliath's name in 2 Samuel 21:19. 21:19。 However, this obvious tamperation of the text is unacceptable because nowhere do we find these very words in the original Hebrew of 2 Samuel 21:19.

  2. Pablo says:

Well if we look in 1 Chronicles 20:5 the full story is shown, because here in Samuel (which is an older text) is lacking “brother” another explanation is before Goliath the untranslatable word “et” which is an object marker can be translated “with Goliath” as in the one who was with Goliath, his brother. It is quite interesting how all the LXX texts all have the same on this, but its not the only instances where this occurs and some not so. But seeing this should shed some light if one is not so hard headed…
